VEGETATION

Especially we should point out the richness of plants, flowers and medicinal herbs. In the neighbourhood of Vlasina lake, especially on the Cemernik mountain, there are various wild fruits: strawberry, raspberry, rose hip, blackberry, bilberry, etc. From the rare plants, we should mention drizzle and laurel cherry as rare botanical phenomena.

Whitish birchwoods are stylistic decorations of the lake. Mixtures of white and black pine trees and juniper trees, which springed during afforesting, have a special decorative touch.

On the vast edge of Vlasina lake, there is a huge forest complex made mostly of old and high beech trees. Of special interest is the yellow beech (with perimeter of 3 meters) because it always has yellow leaves regardless of the season, and is protected as a natural curiousity of this region.

The vegetation of this area is characterized with some rare and endangered species such as drizlle, as one of the rare insectivore which inhabits our country and the hairy birch, adapted to higher altitudes. Here some rare birds can also be seen: grey heron, crested mallard, and others, while the most interesting animal is the ground squirrel.
